Why all heavenly bodies either rotate or revolve.
Why do all planets, stars, moons, galaxies and black either rotate, revolve or both? Why do they never stop? Here is an explanation.
Have you ever wondered why all heavenly bodies rotate/revolve? Why do they never stop? Here is the answer.
Billions of years ago, when the big bang occurred all matter was sent spinning into the universe. The matter made all the planets, stars, moons etc. Since then all the heavenly bodies have been rotating.
Why have they not stopped rotating? Newton’s first law of motion states that an object will remain in its state of rest or continuous motion unless acted upon by a force. This means that if something is moving, it will continue moving unless some force is applied to stop it. In space, there are still forces present but they all are balanced. For example, the gravity of the sun is acting on the earth but the earth doesn’t get sucked in because it is revolving around the sun. The force of the sun’s gravity and the other forces including the force of the earth’s revolution counteract each other. The unbalanced force is negligible. There is no unbalanced force to stop bodies from moving once they start. If you spin a wheel in the vacuum of space, it will continue to spin forever unless you use some force to stop it. This is because in the vacuum of space, there are no forces to stop a wheel from spinning. However, if you use that wheel to power any electronic, it will eventually stop spinning.
You might be wondering, why doesn’t the same work on earth? If you spin a wheel on earth, it will definitely stop after some time even if you don’t try to stop it. That is because there are other forces acting on the wheel like gravity and friction.
In space, all the forces are balanced. There is no unbalanced force to stop the objects or planets. Therefore the heavenly bodies never stop rotating/revolving.
