Webb captures image of star just before it dies
Last week, the James Webb Space Telescope captured a breathtaking image of the dying star WR 124. This star is currently in the rare and dramatic wolf-rayet stage, a phase that only a select few stars pass through before their ultimate demise. During this stage, the star reaches incredibly high temperatures, reaching an astonishing 100,000 Kelvin – 16 times hotter than our very own sun. As a result, the star begins to shed its mass at an alarming rate, shedding its outer layers and exposing its fiery core. However, the star's life will not end quietly. When it can no longer sustain itself, it will go out in a blaze of glory, unleashing a tremendous explosion known as a supernova.
