4 astronauts emerge from year-long Mars simulation
4 NASA astronauts who had been put in a simulated Mars environment for over a year finally emerged after completing their training. The 4 astronauts were put through all the physical conditions of Mars along with other factors like delayed communication with Earth, limited contact with families and psychological impacts of isolation. During the simulations, the astronauts conducted Mars walks, grew food and more. Most of the time was spent inside their 3D-printed habitat. To learn more about their habitat click here.
ISRO shortlists 2 astronauts for first manned mission
Last week, ISRO finally announced the final list of 2 astronauts who would take part in the Gaganyaan mission. The mission is ISRO’s first-ever manned mission, to the ISS. The 2 astronauts will be sent to the USA for specialised training for ISS protocols. However, only 1 astronaut will fly to the ISS.
JAXA launches advanced earth observation satellite
Last week, the Japanese national space agency JAXA successfully launched a new earth observation satellite named Advanced Land Observing Satellite-4 (ALOS-4), also known as DAICHI-4 into space. The launch was JAXA’s new H3 rocket’s second successful launch after its inaugural failure.
