Parker Solar Probe makes its closest approach to sun
Last week, NASA’s Parker Solar Probe (a spacecraft launched in 2018, designed to study the Sun up close) made its closest approach to the sun ever. This achievement was made during its 16th orbit of the sun during which it came as close as 5.3 million miles to the surface.
Skyroot Aerospace makes its largest-ever rocket motor case
The SpaceX of India, Skyroot Aerospace successfully completed the development of its largest rocket motor case ever. A motor case is a protective structure that houses and contains the engine components of a rocket, ensuring their safe operation during launch. The new case is made of carbon fiber which is a lightweight but tough material. This new case is designed to be used in Skyroot’s Vikram - 1 launch vehicle. This is a great acheivment for the private space sector in India.
Webb finds farthest supermassive blackhole ever
Last week the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) discovered the farthest supermassive blackhole ever. The new black hole is located in a galaxy called CEERS 1019 (previously known as EGSY8p7) located around 13.2 billion light years away. The black hole is so ald that experts believe it may have existed when the universe was just 570 million years old.
Samples show that solar sytem barely survived an ancient explosion
Researchers at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan recently found something astonishing while studying asteroid samples collected from outer space. These meteorites were many billions of years old and thus existed when the earth was still in its early stages. The analysis of the samples showed that there were fluctuating amounts of radioactive aluminium present in them. This helped meant that the solar system had just barely survived a massive supernova explosion 4.6 billion years ago!
