The International Space Station is an observatory in space in which astronauts live and conduct experiments. Here are some crazy facts about the ISS.
It is incredibly fast
The International space station travels at the speed of 28,000 km/h. That is eight times the speed of a bullet.
Astronauts age lesser
Astronauts in the space station age lesser than they do on earth because of the high speeds of the ISS, time slows down for them. The aging difference is still very less though. If astronauts spend 6 months in the ISS they would only be younger by 0.005 seconds.
Lots of sunrises
In just 24 hours the space station makes 16 orbits around the earth. It thus experiences 16 sunrises and sunsets.
There is a lot of wiring
If you took out all the wires and cables aboard the International space station and laid them in a straight line, it would be eight miles long.
Lots of parking space
6 spaceships can dock on to the ISS at any given point
50+ computers
More than 50 computers control all the systems on the station
It’s really heavy
The ISS weighs a whopping 420,000kg - that's about the same as 320 cars.
